Barefoot Trail
If you want to feel as though time has stood still, come and visit the Bizauer Obermoos. Tie your laces together, hang your walking boots around your neck, and let your bare feet rejoice in their discovery of many thousands of years of history in the life of a peat bog. Flowing through this idyllic landscape, the Ulve stream meanders down from the wetland meadows with their vast biodiversity, to the marshier lowlands at the edge of the moor. Every so often the trail takes you from one bank of the Ulve to the other, and three peninsulas with seats invite you to take a rest in this beautiful moorland and take in your surroundings.
With an enhanced sense of reality you will discover the most diverse plant communities growing along the banks of the stream. Their often soft, but sometimes rough and brittle surfaces remind you to tread lightly on what is over 10,000 years of past history. From the time when the glaciers finally retreated after the Ice Age, to the unique floral phenomena growing in the moorland meadows – you can experience it all during a walk on the barefoot trail.
Route description:
Please park your car in the village centre. From here the barefoot trail is approx. 10 minutes’ walk to the south, signposted "Moosrundweg". Following the Ulve stream the trail extends approx. 0.6 km barefoot through the moorland. The natural sights and sounds of the river and the many rare plant species enhance the senses and induce an appreciation of the natural world and its cultural identity.
The walk on the barefoot trail (there and back) takes approx. 1 hour. The track itself is not suitable for baby buggies, and dogs are not allowed for health reasons.
